I think I would have liked this novel a little better if I casually stumbled upon it, but in my case, I think it was overly hyped. The first 1/3 of the book was pretty slow and took me a while to get through, but looking back on it, Pi's description of how he found religion (in many forms) was one of my favorite parts. Once he was lost at sea, the story certainly became interesting, but I didn't feel it was as amazing as others made it out to be.

I liked the plot, and I liked the voice. However, it was very, very slow-moving...the first third was like slogging through a swamp. It did pick up when the main action began, but still, the only things that kept me going were the well-done voice and the desire to see exactly how Pi would manage the situation.
