What Members Thought

I don't know how to explain how much I loathed this book. I thought the story was going to be good, and it could have been, but the prose was so overwrought and ridiculous that I found myself rolling my eyes every other paragraph or so. I'm not sure why reviews refer to twists or a surprise ending, because the only twist came quite early. Perhaps I missed a surprise at the end because I was so elated that I only had a few more pages of that absurd writing to endure! I wish I had quit reading it

3.5 stars, if I could. It read fast; something about the way it was written just sort of flowed easily. Interesting story line; I was surprised at myself that I didn't see one turn coming. Not bad.

I did not finish this book. It started out with an intreresting premise. A lonely and rich man in the late 19th century is looking for a wife, so he advertises for one. Sadly the story spirals into a story of their lusts. I am sure the writer meant it to be lyrical and poetic but to me it become nearly pornographic in its discriptions of their desires. Not the book for me.

I thought this would be so good but i was very disappointed. The author has a strange way with words - there were numerous times in the book i found myself saying, "Whaat?" At one point a character "made love to his masculinity" and many men had "gone insane from the beauty of tulips"

Beautifully written. I still have 100 pages to go but I've been reading mostly non-stop all day.
