Finished this old classic Locus Award Nominee in one go and I have to say, I wasn't sure what to expect but it turned out to be an absolute masterpiece!

A depressing dystopia of illiteracy, brought about by men attempting to act like machines and the machines they created in their image.

Though published in 1980, this feels like something begun quite a bit earlier and fixed up prior to publication. It does seem dated, but I did not mind this as I found myself agreeing with its moral outlook.
