James Agee’s classic work A Death in the Family is an in-depth account of how a turn of the century family deals with the death of a loved one. The history, dialogue, and customs are all covered. The most remarkable aspect of the book is how he can get into the heads of the characters. You can feel their pain, what they think, and how they interact with others.
