What Members Thought

A dystopian novel where we see where the internet takes us-- where transparency is the future and secrets are lies. I enjoyed the concept but Eggers belabored the point, in my mind.
The protagonist is Mae and at point you wonder if she is unreliable or stupid as she gets sucked into this future.
Hard not to see Facebook in this and Epic ( being from Madison, WI!)

Mae is an anti-heroine. As transparent as she is to the world in the novel, she is equally as opaque to the reader (and possibly the writer). Still, the chill-inducing machinations of social media corporations—and their willing victims, namely me and the rest of the planet—hits very close to home.

I couldn't get into it.
