I was deeply disappointed by this book.
I thought Dave Eggers was the darling of the literary world (he's been nominated for both the Pulitzer and the National Booker award, after all), so I expected The Circle to be a well-written but dull story of how a universally-adopted modern convenience is actually evil. A long, long time ago, I finished A Heartbreaking Work..., closed it, and threw it across the room because I hated it so much and I also hated Dave Eggers and his massive ego so much. I vowed that I would never again read anything by this jerk and that was that. Done.
But you know what? Sometimes I found myself clicking a McSweeny's link and laughing, a little. Rarely, and I cringed when I did it, but it was enough. The seal was breaking.

This is the second book i have read by Dave Eggers - I liked Zeitoun and i LOVED this book. Mae, our protagonist just got a dream job at "the circle." The only comparison we can make is this company is similar to Google. Great pay, great benefits. Great perks. Mae is young and lives outside San Fran near her ailing and ill parents.
