By the same author as The Kite Runner. I loved The Kite Runner. I can't even find words to describe how much I loved this book, but it's a billion times more than I loved The Kite Runner. This book just made me think, and think some more, and think some more, and feel, and feel some more, and feel some more, and then think and feel even more. This book made me want to learn a whole lot more about Afghanistan and its history and its people. ...more

This is an absolutely heartbreaking story. There are two female main characters - Mariam and Laila. This is the story about their lives in Afghanistan, and being forced into arranged marriages. This story is about Mariam and Laila both their separate lives and how they came to be together. To say the book was moving, intense, and heavy in some parts is an understatement. Been a long time since a book has moved me to such emotions. I HIGHLY recommend this you read this book. ...more

Not only does Hosseini give the reader a wonderful story about the lives of two women who should be worlds apart, but he gives you a portrait of life for a woman in Afghanistan in recent history. Under the various ruling systems, every woman is ultimately the same. The story is really a downer for most of the book, but I th ...more
