Awful. I found it difficult to keep track of the characters and their story lines. I consider myself a book purist (books over movies) but this book might make a beter movie experience than a reading experience since the writing was disjointed. Please don't get me started on the ending!

I generally like pirate romps, although it takes me a bit to get there. But add passionate YA romance and time travel and I’m in! Love it! The two main characters are minorities (woman and African American) who are trying to understand each other’s eras, which puts on an interesting layer of destiny and agency and privilege.

Time travel, adventure, pirates, historical fiction? Check all those boxes! I loved it!
I did have a problem getting into the story as the beginning takes a few chapters to learn how this particular time traveling world works, and how the characters, from two such different time lines fit together. Once I got into the story I was hooked. I loved the chemistry between Nicholas and Etta, that the story does not go down the common roads of most YA books (no love triangle! What a concept!)
