Still liked this one, though comparisons between it and our current Puritanical government rankles.
Dawn gave me this book in the stack of classics with which she sent me off to Egypt in 2004. I finally read it, and it is indeed a classic. I slogged through the introduction, and when I asked my dad about it, he said, "No author would include something like that in a novel anymore." I could've skipped it, I guess, but little did I know. I have wanted to read The Scarlet Letter for a long time. Parts of it were long and typical of what you'd consider a classic work but, over all, the book really is timeless.
