I've read this book twice, both times voluntarily--once in high school and once after college. I didn't love the book either time. it's an old fashioned book, a bit heavy and hard to read. it definitely seemed didactic to me--seeing the soul of even people who break the rules, and why they are doing it--and yet, like Sense and Sensibility, not rewarding or allowing those perpetrators to escape justice. it's an interesting book, but not dreadfully enjoyable. Read it for an interesting perspective

I've tried to find what others have found in this book many times. Over the last five years I've probably read it three times for various literature courses, and have never been able to find it. Now that I'm finishing up college and have no occasion to reread yet again, I'm giving up.
