Another free classic I downloaded for Kindle. Either my literary tastes just aren't suited to some classics, or they are massively overrated. Admittedly you must approach any writing as a product of its time, but nonetheless the rampant racism and colonialism in this novella got completely in the way of the story and the characters for me.

I love Kipling.
Such a simple story, but... strong.
I kind of prefer the movie, though... I saw the movie when I was a teenager, and I was blown away... this is one instance where the movie is better than the book :-D

Though I do appreciate the things, like Freemasons etc. in the story, I don't remember being in the movie. ...more
