I struggled with how much the narration made or broke this book or me. The narrator really did an amazing job with the multiple languages & dialects required of her to adequately perform this book. And I think overall, it definitely added some "authenticity" to it for me personally.

I just reread this. I can't remember when I first read it, it must have been YEARS ago, because I really didn't remember a thing about it except liking it. I still enjoyed it, but at times wanted it to move a little faster.

I think that what really makes this book work is the way it is written. You witness this story through the viewpoint of each of the daughters — even little Ruth May. It’s a very compelling read, and I heartily recommend it.
A masterpiece, in my opinion, and destined to become a minor classic given time. Kingsolver really makes you think about marriage, politics, and religion. A great read.
