I love comics, and I never read this one - I'm so sorry I missed it when it first came out! Still, it's interesting to read after having seen the movie - the movie was really very loyal to the book.

This book has been on my to-read list since the movie came out (though I still haven’t watched the movie). Overall I enjoyed it, with a caveat or two.
The art style is very traditional, which I appreciated. It did take some mental work for me to solidify myself in the correct time period, especially when so much is referenced back in the 60s. I've never been a comic book reader, and this was my first graphic novel - it will probably also be my last. I don't necessarily think that the book itself was bad, just not my style.

I think I was out of my genre here. I borrowed this from the friend after hearing a lot of enthusiasm about the movie. In retrospect, I appreciate what they were trying to do, and I can see why this was groundbreaking in 1985. But now, with the many "flawed superhero" movies that have come out in recent years, it didn't seem all that special. I'm a horrible person. I borrowed this from my brother ages ago and am only just now returning it. A very grim book, fascinating and I can see why it's a 'to read' book, but I doubt I will read it again.
