In college I majored in Russian literature, and this was required for a course in Soviet Literature in Translation; as you will see if you read the synopsis, the English version was the only one available to us in 1968, and that was the case with several of the books we read in that class.

Phenomenal. I have a soft spot for dystopias, and this one is before all of them. The author creates a fantastic picture of a world future. It's hard to believe that this book is as old as it is. The author envisions petroleum-based food products, all wrapped in the One State complete with total control and conformity.
