An excellent dystopian novel that helped inspire Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World. WE was written in 1921 and is set in the 26th century in a city called One State. In One State there is no such thing as personal identity or freedom. People no longer have names and instead are called by an alphanumeric identifier. There are lots of themes running through the book such as personal freedom vs. the common good. It's a very thought provoking story.

Phenomenal. I have a soft spot for dystopias, and this one is before all of them. The author creates a fantastic picture of a world future. It's hard to believe that this book is as old as it is. The author envisions petroleum-based food products, all wrapped in the One State complete with total control and conformity.
