Read this book because my son had just finished it and loved it. It was a very good story and tells of a great sacrifice of the danish people to get Jewish people out of Denmark and into Sweden to safety.

This is a good introduction for a young person to the fear, hatred and persecution of the Nazi regime without getting into the more horrible and disgusting details.

I read this when I was a kid, but I recently listened to it via audiobook. It's a great story - you can step into Annemarie's shoes and see how WWII affects her - this 10 year old girl - and her family and friends. I loved the parts regarding the Resistance, how Danes did their part against the Nazis, and the "fake" funeral. I'd forgotten about the little packet that Annemarie's mother gives her to give to her uncle... I guessed that it was fake ID papers for the Jews on the run, but...it's not ...more

An excellent book which fictionalizes the amazing true story of how the Danes saved nearly all their Jewish compatriots during World War II, at great personal risk. Highly recommended.
