F. Scott Fitzgerald had a way with words. Unfortunately, the characters in this novel are all so entirely unlikable that I didn't really enjoy the book. Oh, woe is me, stuck here on the French Riviera feeling jealous of the other dilettantes. Eh, maybe I would have liked this book better in print rather than listening to it as an audiobook. I think in print I would have been better able to appreciate the fine turns of phrase and might have been more forgiving of the annoying characters. But mayb

This one was a slog for me and a bit of a hot mess in my opinion. The low rating is because of the writing style by F. Scott Fitzgerald and not content related. I was disappointed because I so badly wanted to like it. Every time I felt a glimpse of hope throughout the novel, I was let down.
