What the heck did I just read? A rural family prepares to bury their mother (who was horrible) and terrible things ensue. Arson, injury, abortion, racism, rape, adultery, vanity—wow...just...wow. I guess the one redeeming quality of this book is that Cash, the literary namesake of my son, is the one good and kind character.
The whole book reminded me of the darkest parts of Steinbeck without the beautiful language. I have always been curious to read Faulkner, but I don’t think I will read anythi ...more
