All the blurbs on this book say it is the “European Gone Girl” which I haven’t read. I didn’t make the connection until three quarters of the way into the book, at which point the story really comes off the rails. What I found really frightening was the repeated use of the quote Anna Karenina “All happy families are alike; all unhappy families are unhappy in their own way.” In this case switch out unhappy with psychopathic and you have a pretty good theme to the book. Ugh. I don't like this book. The premise is so interesting, about two couples who have kids with the same age and there was a serious issue that they need to talk about regarding to their kids. What is the issue? We don't know yet. The writer took time to bring us back and forth- from the present time, where these couples are sitting down in a fancy restaurant and eating their meals, to the past, where we were taken to see these people from different perspectives.

I loved the way this novel was structured, the unreliable narrator, the slowly building creepiness. I'll be thinking about it for a while. I kind of love/hate it.
