It was definitely super long and maybe a little overdone at points (suspending disbelief enough to think that people would actually write letters with that much detail was hard for me!), but it was so well done that I didn't care - I was waiting at the pharmacy reading it and I forgot where I was, I got so swept up in the beautiful descriptions of Istanbul and other far-flung places. Maybe my first mistake was in checking out the unabridged, 22-disc audiobook rather than taking heed of the fact that all but one of the audiobooks that the library held were abridged, 10-disc versions. Prior to this book, I refused to listen to anything abridged because it was not the way the author envisioned their story. You won't even notice that this book is 900 pages because the story is great. I didn't want to stop reading it.
