"The small boys came early to the hanging." When I read that sentence twice, the entire book came together. This was such a long, intense book but recommended (Noor), so I had to read it. I loved it. I thought I hated historical fiction, but this book was set in the 1100s and it was wonderful. I will warn you, don't read this one unless you have a good chunk of time to devote yourself to it...otherwise it ...more

I don't like historical fiction. I loathe books that are so wordy with descriptions that I want to toss it out a window. This book was FANTASTIC! I started reading and had a hardtime putting it down. Never thought a book about monks and cathedrals would hold me captive but this sure as hell did. ...more

I liked this book before Oprah damn it. I read it back when it came out and loved it and recommended to everyone. Just finished re-reading it and enjoyed every page. Will start the sequel soon.
