OH, don't judge me. Read this on our honeymoon. The historical anachronisms will drive you mad, but it's a fun read. I think I could have skipped most of the last 500 pages, though.

I loved this book and I didn't want it to end. Prior Philip is one of my favorite characters of all time. Good vs. evil. Wit against brutality. Interesting angle on religion. Strong female characters. For me, the measure of good writing is in how much I skim. I didn't skim this book very much at all - even the pages and pages of descriptions of cathedrals! Beautiful & spare writing transports you to England in the 1100's.

finally giving in to the pressure of my sister.

I am so taken by this book. Its completely not in my wheelhouse of reading but I am really liking it. I have a million books to read this summer....I love having that problem. What an incredible book...I'm sad that I finished it but luckily it has a sort of sequel (that happens 2 centuries later!!!)

A historical novel about the building of a medieval cathedral. I enjoyed the historical details, but just didn't buy the characters' language and conversation...too modern for its times.
