This book is great if you accept it for what it is - a memoir written by a sitting senator with continuing political aspirations. It shows an honest look at Hillary's eight years in the white house as a proactive, policy-driving first lady. I appreciated Hillary's honest descriptions of why she takes the political positions that she does (pro-choice, women's and family issues, etc.), although much of the book reads like a campaign statement. I read this book mostly because I didn't understand Hillary, and I thought she was a strong person for all she's done. Reading this took some devotion as it took much longer to get through all 532 pages, but I can say I understand her now, and admire her for her drive and passions. I didn't agree with her politically all the time, yet I do appreciate her love of civil society and her assessment of how a democracy is defined.

I really liked this book. It may sound a cheesy, but I'd been having a bad month, and every time I picked up this book, I felt a little kick of "girl power!"

Two things I was disappointed with: I do wish she had delved a bit more into her relationship with Bill post-Lewinsky; and this book ends in 2000, when her Senate career began. I look forward to the sequel. ...more
