I'm very glad I read and finished this trilogy, but I'll be straight with you - the first book is three times as good as the third book. This rating is more like 3.5 stars or even 3 stars, but it's bumped up because the trilogy as a whole is so good.

The third and final volume of Jane Smiley’s trilogy covering one hundred years in the life of the Langdon family was elegiac and thoughtful. I am always drawn to epic family sagas, and these three books were an immensely satisfying way to fill that craving.

I enjoyed this trilogy. I think the author did a great job of writing a complicated family history set over 100 years. Having farming in my family history made me appreciate this aspect of the story. I loved getting to know all of the Langdons.
