Except for the fair that is held in a mysterious meadow once every nine years, the people of Wall never cross the wall into the faerie meadow.

Dunstan Thorn meets a beautiful, enslaved woman at the fair and nine months later a baby is delivered to his doorstep.

Dunstan's son, Tristran, grows up not knowing his heritage. When he falls in love, he rashly promises his beloved that he will do anything for her. Not really taking him seriously, she asks him to bring her back a falling star.

I liked this book, but didn’t love it. There were parts and characters that were funny, scary and interesting but at times it almost seemed like Gaiman was over doing it. Why do there have to be the dead brothers of Stronghold? And the witches? Really? I guess you just don’t go out to Faerie and not encounter danger, but at the same time it seemed a little like following every fairy tale plot device all in one book. It is possible that my viewing of the movie right before reading this book color ...more
