4.5 stars. Well this book just reached in, grabbed my heart, twisted, and ripped it right out. Then it decided to stomp on it before leaving me desolate.

Although there were some things I liked about this book, it had a lot of issues. The pacing was off - I found it to be pretty slow and even kind of boring throughout a lot of it. Shahrzad's plan was not very well thought out and worked WAY too soon. She was billed as being extremely clever, but really I thought she was mostly thoughtless and reckless, and just got lucky. As with a number of other reviewers, I have... mixed feelings about this one. I wanted to like it more than I did, I just... really didn't end up caring about the characters. For me, the plot was too slow, the characters too cliche, the magic was too sudden/unexplained, the romance was too fast, the love triangle too bland, and I couldn't get over the Special Snowflake Syndrome that infected Shahrzad from the moment she appeared.
