4.5 ⭐️! So fun. I was pretty sure I was going to love this, and I did. 80's references galore, dystopia, cool tech and a bit of romance? It's like it was written with me in mind!
Through the latter third of the book, I couldn't help but notice the idea of "CONVENIENT!" flash across my brain (often!) but the story was so fun and fast-moving that I just ignored that part of my brain and decided to enjoy the ride. This is going to be a great movie - it reads just like one.

I really enjoyed this book. I am not a gamer, so I didn't get all the game references, but you didn't really need to. I was a teenager in the 80s and I loved all the references. Apparently, there is a movie adaption coming out and I hope they do it justice!

It is a really wonderful thing to be pleasantly surprised by a book. Sure, I heard of this and even suggested it for friends and family but always felt like it wasn't exactly for me. But I picked this up recently for my book club and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

I don’t think I can put how great this book is into words. This book is..the book for people like me. Who love their internet friends as much as the people they’ve grown up with. For those who always felt a little left out until you find that thing that makes sense. Those people that like what you like.

I would love to rate this more a 3 3/4 stars than a full 4. Great story, but some literary tropes and a few too perfect parts took away from the story as a whole. I listened to the audio and wasn't overly impressed with the narration.

The world of the not-so-distant future is a hot mess. Instead of looking for solutions, everyone spends their time in a virtual world called OASIS, where they can be or do anything they can imagine. Wade is a lonely teenager who stays with his drug-addicted aunt in a skyscraper trailer park. As if he needed more motivation to hide in the OASIS, he's one of the many people on a quest to discover the three keys leading to a valuable Easter egg that the creator of OASIS hid in there before he died.

I listened to the Audiobook version of this and couldn't stop listening. What an excellent story. Lots and lots of geek and gamer references, probably about half of which I didn't get, but the story is written so that you don't need to know the details of the game being referenced.

Really enjoyed the book. Very well done and researched.
