I've recommended this book to dozens of people over the years, and many hated it, or didn't even want to finish it. I can't say anything except that I love this book without qualification. It's a little quirky, and romantic beyond reason, and probably too long. But the characters are extremely affecting, and the historically ambitious backdrop of Industrial Age New York is immensely satisfying! ...more
