I read this book a story at a time until this weekend, and then I couldn't stop because I kept laughing out loud ,and reading parts aloud to David and my friend Mary Lynn, and thinking of stories I wanted to read to my fifth graders but I'd have to edit generously because Jenny Lawson is a grown up with a husband and he indicates he wants to have sex, and she says, "No, I can't have sex with you because there aren't enough spoons." I selected this to be my "Read a book with a main character that has a mental illness" choice for the 2016 Book Riot Read Harder challenge. Like the author's first book (Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir), there were many laugh-out-loud moments as I read it and I really enjoyed the author's conversational, witty, and open writing style. Jenny is just a brilliant voice in this world. She puts all the stories out there that balance humor and reality and then gives you such a dose of humanity - I love every page.

This book is about Jenny Lawson, a quirky blogger and journalist, and her personal experiences with mental illness - specifically depression and anxiety. It's a collection of essays, thoughts (random!), conversations between her and Victor (her husband), her friends, her therapist... and her taxidermy raccoon, Rory. While her accounts are funny and comforting it's a book about a serious topic that is not always easy to talk about.
