I actually liked this book quite a lot. I was surprised, having heard some disappointment in the ending from a number of people, but I thought the book did a stellar job of portraying the damage violence does - physical and mental - and what it means to be a symbol and a human being at the same time. Katniss is a wreck; so is Peeta and so, somewhat less obviously, is Gale. I thought the supporting characters were at their best in this book (especially Johanna Mason; I wish we could have had more

Without being able to put my finger on why exactly, I have to say this was my least favorite of the three books. I still enjoyed it and am sad that I am finished with the series, I just feel like this one had a lot of down time in the action. It still had many twists and surprises that I enjoyed though.

I liked the honest ending, rather than a simulated happy one where everything goes right. But as with the second book, this one took too long to get interesting. there were a few parts that were hard to walk away from, but for the most part I just wanted to skip to the end to see who lived or died and who won Katniss's heart.

The third book didn't live up to the standards the first two set. It started relatively strong and about a third of the way through it started to read choppy and rushed. The ending was disappointed.
