Re-read March 2012: I think most of the points below still stand on re-read. I'm interested to see how they will approach the 3rd movie.

March 2011: I never really knew about the hype surrounding these books. I had heard rumblings, but I tend to shy away from news about books I haven't read to avoid possible spoilers. It's nice to go into a series without expectations.

I feel like people are pretty harsh on hyped-up books, but I just try to evaluate them based on how they make me feel, and wheth

While an interesting read, I didn't feel that this book was as good as the others in this trilogy. Perhaps it's because so many people die in it, characters I felt I barely got to know over the course of the books yet the deaths disturb Katniss so much, I wanted to see why they meant so much to her. This book disturbed me really badly for some reason, over the other books. I only kept reading because I wanted to finish the trilogy! I will say that the ending tied up everything well, but I still finished the book feeling really upset.

Overall, I'd give the trilogy a 4-star rating, although the first book was my favorite of the three. A fast-paced story that kept me interested throughout the series. I thought the author did a great job of presenting complex ideas and concepts about war and peace, including alliance building, politics, and the fog of war. I can see these books as great conversation starters. I'm just glad I was able to read all three close together because having to wait to find out the end would've been madden ...more

I haven't reviewed the other two books in The Hunger Games series, however, this one begged to have at least a few comments directed at it.

I came very close to giving this book 2 stars. The only thing that saved it was the ending...which was satisfying. That being said, I really believe that this series should have been at least 4 books long. Entirely too much takes place in this last book and a great deal of it feels rushed.
