While an interesting read, I didn't feel that this book was as good as the others in this trilogy. Perhaps it's because so many people die in it, characters I felt I barely got to know over the course of the books yet the deaths disturb Katniss so much, I wanted to see why they meant so much to her. First read: June 2, 2011. Not nearly as good as the first two. not as much action, a lot of medicated depression and hiding in small spaces, all the characters in disagreements and an unsatisfying conclusion. Still, if you read the first two, you've got to read the last one, too.

Overall, I'd give the trilogy a 4-star rating, although the first book was my favorite of the three. A fast-paced story that kept me interested throughout the series. I thought the author did a great job of presenting complex ideas and concepts about war and peace, including alliance building, politics, and the fog of war. I can see these books as great conversation starters. I'm just glad I was able to read all three close together because having to wait to find out the end would've been madden
