Review in Brief: I can see why this is the longest running bestseller on the NY Times Bestseller list. I had to keep reminding myself this was narrative nonfiction because the characters were more vivid than anything I could imagine and Savannah itself was the most important character of all. What I really liked was the contrast between my visit there some years ago and the narrative (based in the 1980s) and how much has changed (more integration and acceptance of SCAD influence) as well as how

Loved this book! Berendt's style is wonderful. It's hard to believe some of the characters aren't fictional. He brings the people of Savannah to life.
