Tom Perrotta writes really unlikeable characters and I really like them, but feel a little dirty whenever I finish one of his books. I liked this book, and always enjoy his style of writing. I can almost hear the voice of the fabulous narrator from the movie adaptation of Little Children when reading this book. The premise of this post-rapture book is brilliant, expecially from Perrotta's perspective.

I listened to this over almost two months, so my reading of it was probably compromised. I liked the reader, but just didn't have long stretches of time to listen.
This is a sort post-apocalyptic novel, minus any gore that it is almost mundane. Some sort of rapture occurs and 1/2 of everyone just disappears, no warning and for no apparent reason. This book focuses on one family who have all survived, but are damaged by the emotional fallout.

Strange and satiric and sometimes horrifying take on contemporary suburban life. I like the way it unsettled me. It took a while for the book to teach me how to read it, and then I'd be surprised and have to shift my perception as a reader. Ultimately, I liked the way the book kept unsettling/surprising me. Perotta's a really interesting writer.
