A cataclysmic event is met with pedestrian fair in Tom Perrota’s The Leftovers. The rapture has occurred, or at least, the world thinks it has. It’s very confusing since people considered shoo-ins to be taken up are left behind and people like Adam Sandler are taken up. This creates a huge loss of faith with organized religion taken the brunt and cult groups take-off. Shelves: fiction, sci-fi-fantasy

I listened to this over almost two months, so my reading of it was probably compromised. I liked the reader, but just didn't have long stretches of time to listen.
This is a sort post-apocalyptic novel, minus any gore that it is almost mundane. Some sort of rapture occurs and 1/2 of everyone just disappears, no warning and for no apparent reason. This book focuses on one family who have all survived, but are damaged by the emotional fallout.
