I was surprised how unlikable the characters were.
Quite an achievement--fantasy that rings true, because the author did not lose his memory of childhood and the power of imagination. Beautiful story about what's lost when we grow up.
Also important to note the author's lens in 1911, so there's a definite paternalistic tone and a subtext about Native Americans that is racist. If reading to or with a child, I'd want to address these elements. ...more

I read this one with my kids, and we all really liked it. There was a lot more violence than I expected, but I love the world of Neverland and the character of Captain Hook.
Listened to the audiobook with my five year old son. I had forgotten that there were battles with Indians in Neverland, but other than that I found the story delightful. I'm not sure my son really understood much of it, but he seemed to enjoy listening anyway. His favorite part is probably when Peter and a bird tell each other to shut up. Anyway, some lovely language here and I'm glad to have revisited this classic tale. I'll listen to it again with my son at some point when he's a bit older.

8/2/2022: Reread. I know this book has some problematic elements. I am in. I way discounting that. This time I listened to the Audible Original and it was not as good. The production was very distracting.
10/26/19 - 10/27/19: Reread. Still 5 stars. I love returning to Neverland. Each time I pick up something new or that I had forgotten.
I just love this story. It never fails to make me smile. Every trip to Neverland is an adventure.
