(TW: child abuse, off-the-page suicide)
I don't read horror much, and this is not exactly horror - it's Neil Gaiman, so like fantasy-horror - but it freaked me right out. But it resolved beautifully, so as not to leave lasting scars, and in fact, was just a gorgeous book. It's a child's psychological horror story - much like Coraline, but this book is written for adults. To give you an idea of how much I loved this book, I started it at 9:25 at night and finished it just after the 11 o'clock news was coming on. What a lovely, heart-breaking, frightening book. This was a pretty decent read. I wish there had been a bit more about this strange world that the story takes place in. It felt a little bit like being dropped into the middle of a world and then yanked back out without any context.
That said, the ideas behind it were brilliant and the story itself was an enjoyable read.

I had forgotten a lot of what went on in this book, which is the best. I love how twisty it is, but man it is horrifying.

This book was gritty and horrifying and oh so good. Deliciously creepy.
