I finished this last night and I still haven't figured out what I think of it. I kind of loved it, but it's hard to REALLY love a book when there isn't a single character to like. But I found them fascinating, particularly in the second half (for anyone who is struggling to get through it, I promise, once you get to the second half it picks up!) which shocked me over and over again. GOD this book was such a slog. Lotto is a royal dick. Matilde is a real buzzkill. Everyone has obscene amounts of baggage. THE WOOOOOORST.

This was actually a quick read but it felt like the longest read ever. The story just drags on about nothing, really. There is no action, no story. It's about a marriage, told from both sides. But my goodness are these two characters boring and have nothing interesting about them. Lotto is a terrible, snobby ego maniac. Mathilde is flat, depressive and pretty awful. This was just a bunch of pretentious characters doing not much interesting. Tedious.
