I read this aloud to my two kiddos - they got most of it but i had to explain a bit to my youngest. I really loved this book. This is the story of Ivan the silverback gorilla who lives in a mall in a cage. There are other animals there, sadly, as well. As my students say, "its sad. but happy!" So don't despair - the ending will make you cheer.

I have basically have no tolerance for animals in peril – it breaks my heart and I can’t take it. But my niece really really loved this book, so I figured I better read it. Even for a kids book it had some parts that were hard for me, but it’s beautifully written and has a nice message and good ending.
A lovely story of friendship and caring.
I began reading this book with my 10 and 7 year old as part of their homeschool curriculum. It was scheduled for three weeks, but we finished it in three days! My girls loved it. I appreciated the clever structure and POV.
