A woman's memory is wiped clean every night while she sleeps, after having a nasty accident years ago. She wakes up every morning next to her husband, whom she doesn't remember, and believing herself to be years younger. Once she starts keeping a journal at the request of her doctor, she learns surprising facts about herself, and her past. The suspense builds when she realizes something isn't quite right about her husband. I was drawn in from the beginning, but I figured out what was go ...more

Generally you have no consistent memory of anything that happened since your early childhood, but you seem to process new memories in a way I have never come across before. If I left this room now and returned in two minutes, most people with anterograde amnesia would not remember having met me at all, certainly not today. But you seem to remember whole chunks of time—up to twenty-four hours—which you then lose. That’s not typical. To ...more

This was an enjoyable psychological thriller, kind of a dark 50 First Dates. The narrative was a bit unbalanced with the middle dragging a bit and too much packed into the last pages. I didn't feel the sense of foreboding intended by the author until the book was almost over. The twist was easy to figure out, but I still wanted to know what would happen. All in all, I would recommend this to a friend, but it could have been better.

Decent book, good story line; the pages kept flying. I did hit a snag in the middle of the book where I felt like it was getting tedious but it was only a chapter or two before it switched gears. And there was one very small section in the book that I didn't think fit at all (the bathroom scene of her by herself at home, toward the end). But it was an entertaining read so 3 stars it is.

This book was a pleasant surprise! It kept me guessing for a good long while. Then I got interested learning more about some of the real people who inspired the main character (mentioned in the author's notes at the end of the book) and that was even more fascinating - though incredibly sad. This is a book you can read quickly - good for when you're traveling.

3.5 stars Stayed up late to finish this last night. Good premise and twists and turns. You never quite know what is real & true or not, a lot like Christine feels, I imagine. How can you trust what anyone says you know they are lying to you - but is it to save you pain, or a darker purpose?
I watched the movie today and it certainly was a pale imitation of the novel, even if it did have Nicole Kidman & Colin Firth in it.
