I read an article this morning about how to write better book reviews. It was all, don't just base your reviews on your emotional attachment to the setting or characters, but instead be more critical of the literary merits of the work. It has me thinking. On one hand, I understand the author's point. I want to be able to recommend good books. On the other, most people react to books emotionally - so making those indications can be extremely helpful. This was my first graphic novel, which I'm reading for a book club. I was really impressed - it's such a different experience of reading, yet nothing is lost in the telling (or is it the drawing?). The story is good as well - I've just started Maus II and am eager to find out the rest of the tale. NOTE: Because I've enjoyed this so much, I've also bought "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi.

Just as good the second time as it was the first time. Poignant, painful and very evocative. I think the genre of it makes it even more accessible to people who do not love books, history channel history pieces, or movies. Or who wanted an even more in-depth version in a way that was easier. I love that it does a good job of showing us the present and the past, those who it happens to and those who have to deal with the repercussions in the next generations (or marriages).
