This was a great book. I've always wanted to hike the AT and was further inspired by Bryson's descriptions. One for the bucket list! But he doesn't sugar-coat anything. It sounds treacherous and dangerous. I love his sarcastic wit and would love to meet his buddy Katz.

I find Bryson hilarious. His writing makes me giggle and snort out loud. He just tickles my funny bone. This is a narrative of Bryson's adventures trying to hike the Appalachian Trail (or at least a part of it) accompanied by an overweight recovering alcoholic.

Not my favorite Bryson, but still enjoyable. Thing is, hiking for hundreds of miles is both boring and difficult, and Bryson did a good job conveying that, so I spent a lot of time just being really glad I was NOT currently hiking the Appalachian Trail.
On the other hand, a lot of the information he gave on the trees and songbirds that are dying out or already extinct was really heartbreaking.

I really enjoyed this book- Bill Bryson is an excellent writer, the perfect amount of background information and personal reflection. I definitely want to hike the Appalachian trail now!
