It is really hard for me to review and rate this for some reason. I would give it a 3.5 because I was really into reading it not knowing where it was going, and since it was so short, how would it get there. But as far as the story itself....sad doesn't describe it, or depressing but somewhere in those lines.

Somehow I never read this book and was excited to see it was on tap for one of my students. After all these years, and knowing it is considered a classic, I am disappointed. I thought the end particularly sucked.
A clear portrait of the farming people of rural California during the early part of the 20th century. Emotions while reading this alternated between beauty/hope and despair/disgust.
Another of the ones read for my classes. This is a slow read, but it is still deeply moving and the ending still makes me quite sad. It's a good display of the time period, economically, sexually, racially. George and Lennie will forever have my heart, and the ending, every single time, kept my heart squeezed and saddened.
