I feel like the adverb "fucking" is really necessary in all descriptions of this book. Fucking astonishing. Fucking engaging. Fucking good. --first review, 2010.
Second read, 2018--definitely some poor writing that needed another once-over by a copyeditor, but still really well crafted, very imaginative, striking, engaging, etc. I still think it's good. ...more

It took me a little while to read this one; a hot book with a waiting list at the library meant I had to return it halfway through. But I kept thinking about it while it was away from me, and I finished it very quickly. This book has the feel of the Richard Bachman book (and Arnold Schwartzenegger movie) Running Man, except that I liked Hunger Games much much more. I'm excited to read the second book in the series. Hooray for YA books! :)
