Like all of Gladwell's books, I found this one to be interesting and a quick read. A lot of great anecdotes that were entertaining, a lot of interesting insights, and a few things I thought were interpreted from a very specific standpoint I didn't quite share. That being said, it's a good read and worth checking out. An outlier are "those who have been given opportunities and who have had the strength and presence of mind to seize them". This is Malcolm Gladwell's interesting account into what characteristics make up an outlier. I think my favorite segment was when he looks into the culture of honor that is in the American South.

This book illustrates what I've already figured out about life. Success is not just hard work, but also luck and being in the right set of circumstances at the right time. There are too many people out there who work their butts off and don't get very far for anything else to be true.

This book is really a magazine article stretched to book length. The premise, while important, is not particularly novel: to be successful, one must be both smart, talented, and hardworking and also lucky enough to have the right opportunities at the right time. Gladwell pitches the book as an important lesson for society about the importance of providing the right opportunities at the right time, but really all he's able to do is look historically to see what cultural factors turned out to be h

I really liked this book. It is a sociology book, and Pete is reading it right now and loving it. I thought the author did a great job of making his points using interesting stories that change the way we veiw success. I can't wait to talk about it at book club. Great read.
