This is definitely a classic. I really enjoyed the audiobook version I found on YouTube. The narrator had just the right accent and an easy voice to listen to.

One of the books listed in "1001 Children's Books" (in 8+) and frankly I'm sorry I ever read this one - it's just too sad. I can't rate it "liked it" since I wish I'd never read it, although it was a very good story - I'm in my 40s now and this story still sticks with me ... ...more
