What Members Thought

I read this for book club. If it had not been the choice for my group, I would not have thought to pick it up. It had some interesting stories within and moved pretty quickly since the pages were small. However, I didn't understand most of the words being used and that made visualizations difficult. It was also too wordy, which made some scenes more confusing or vague. I also felt like I was counting the pages until I'd be done with each story.

This is a quick little read, a series of short stories that unfolds like Russian nesting dolls. Each vignette focuses on the acquisition of one painting (the girl in hyacinth blue) that may or may not be by the Dutch master Vermeer. As each tale takes you further back in time, we see glimpses of history and life, and the emotions that one painting can evoke.
