Even though I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, this history of Quidditch didn’t especially thrill me. Of course, I was reading a book about Quidditch for the reading challenge prompt, “read a book involving sports.” That probably says more about me than it says about this book.

The depth and breadth of J.K. Rowling’s world building continues to astound me. If the Quidditch scenes were your favorite parts of the Harry Potter books, then this book is for you!

It was 2000 when I first read Harry Potter. My friend Super Suz recommended the series to me but I put off reading it for ages. I wasn’t into reading much young adult stuff back then and my argument for not reading them was that I wasn’t interested in reading children’s book. How book-snobbish of me.

It was around the time the first film was coming out and I was hearing a lot about the controversy that was being stirred up over witchcraft and censorship. Censorship and banning books is one of my

-- Illustrated Edition

My mother picked me up for my birthday a copy of the Hogwarts Library Illustrated Collection (all three Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard). I can’t objectively review this book because I’m gonna love anything Harry Potter (except that stupid stage play). This read was delightful. The added material was especially engaging.

Very lightweight. Kind of cute, but so unmemorable that a few years later I can't even remember what Rowling said in it. it's a fun piece of VERY light reading as a companion to the HP series, and easier reading for kids who like the series. But not quite what I was hoping for, compared to the rest of Rowling's writing. ...more

Audiobooks's 2011:

I actually really enjoyed listening to this one. There are so many well crafted details and back story pieces. I love the historical documentary list to the whole thing. The way it was old, and then all the way up into modern.

I spent a lot of it smiling and loving the information.
