Libby is not a likable character at all. She's bitter, irresponsible, rude, and just plain mean. When you consider what she went through at the age of seven, however, it makes sense. Her two sisters and mother were brutally killed, and she's been sure her brother did it for the last twenty-five years. She even testified that he did it back than, even thought she didn't actually see anything. So, her brother, Ben, has been in prison all this time. Now, when faced with having no money, Libby looks

I waffled between 3 and 4 stars so would probably give it a solid 3.5 if I had the option :) The writing was pretty amazing. Descriptive, compelling, engaging. This was so unrelentingly dark (even compared to her other two) and the ending was not terribly satisfying. As usual, spot on character development. I hated everyone, but at least understood why Libby had a stunted upbringing. With such strong character development, I wasn't a big fan of the random dime store mystery gotcha ending. Another WIN for Gillian Flynn! I love how she puts together a mystery/suspense book...unlike any author that comes to mind. After reading Gone Girl (and loving it), I was hesitant to read another Flynn book simply because I feared it wouldn't live up to the suspense factor...it certainly did. Beyond that, I love how Libby grows up over the short course of this book, coming back to life (so to speak) after a long time of just surviving...I imagine her now thriving.

I don't usually read this type of book, but I couldn't put it down. I liked it even better than her other two.
