Here’s an excerpt:

“Mr. Jeavons, the psychologist at the school, once asked me why 4 red cars in a row made it a Good Day, and 3 red cars in a row made is a Quite Good Day, and 5 red cars in a row made it a Super Good Day, and why 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day, which is a day when I don’t speak to anyone and sit on my own reading books and don’t my lunch and Take No Risks. I both wanted to like this book and felt like I should. But I found myself rushing to finish it to get to the next one. I appreciate this look through the eyes of person with a very special brain and perspective on the world, but in the end, it wasn't my cup of tea.

I did quite enjoy Christopher's thoughts on aliens -- that there's no reason to expect they'd be anything like us, etc. And I identified with his some of his introverted qualities quite deeply.

I can absolutely applaud and appreciate the acheivement of writing this book from the perspective of a 15-year-old autistic boy. I thought Mark Haddon did a fantastic job of capturing the basic challenges of just getting through the day. With that said I was also bored and found this to be a slow read.

The three stars is more of a combination rating, personal enjoyment was probably a two, but I'd give four stars for writing acheivement.

Another book that I wanted so much to enjoy but....just didn't. The beginning of the book was great, but towards the middle the entire story seemed to just plateau. Although, Haddon does deserve recognition for writing from an autistic boy's POV - that was very well done. ...more

This is a quick read, but a delightful tale of a boy who see the world through a very unique set of eyes. It will hopefully challenge how you see the world yourself, and how you treat the mentally ill.

Interested read. Written from the unusual perspective of a boy with some sort of autism like disorder. You find yourself sypathetic to his way of seeing things. Read again June 7, 2018.

This was a quick read...a beautiful exploration of human emotion through the eyes of an autistic child.
